MIGHT WIN AN OSCAR

It is a tradition of this blog near the end of each year to rank the movies that came out during the year (2015) and that I saw in the year (2015). These are just my thoughts about the movies. If it is different than yours, that is OK. We can have different opinions, really.

Why do I put this list out? Well, no reason really other than I just want to. It is just a yearly feature of Admirable Thoughts: Writings of Code Monkey.

I would like to thank the Local Public Libraries where I checked out all but four of these movies. Without the library, I probably would not have wasted hours watching movies because I don’t want to spend the money on them.

2 McFarland, USA Based on a true story I can’t believe I did not know about

RANK MOVIE THOUGHTS
1 Unbroken I loved the book and waited for the movie. Now, I know the movie is usually no where good as the book. I knew the film had to cut out a lot of stuff including the most important parts on how he over came his hate, bitterness, and other hard struggles after the war. Still Louie Zamperini is a hero of mine, as when I think things in my life are too hard I remember him. So I enjoyed the movie.
2 Captain America, the Winter Soldier Thank you Marvel for keeping Cap awesome
3 Guardians of the Galaxy This movie caught me off guard on how much I liked it
4 X-Men: Days of Future Past Love those time-line changes to keep the franchise alive
5 The Lego Movie I am pretty sure their Batman will be much better than anything Ben Affleck could ever do
6 When The Game Stands Tall It wasn’t Hoosiers or Remember the Titans, but it was good sports movie
7 Mr. Peabody & Sherman It was nice the way it used the old cartoon with a fresh spin on it
8 Moms’ Night Out I laughed a lot. It was funny.
9 Million Dollar Arm Maybe predicable, but it was enjoyable
10 Transformers. Age Of Extinction I trend to enjoy Mark Wahlberg movies
11 Edge Of Tomorrow Wow, I knew it was going to a Sci-Fi Military Ground Hog Day, but I did enjoy it
12 The Giver Interesting story
13 Heaven is for Real It
14 God’s Not Dead I did not know what to expect, but it ended up being not bad
15 Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit A reboot movie, but it was not bad
16 Muppets Most Wanted Probably the worst Muppets movie, but it has a few good moments
17 Planes: Fire & Rescue Ok, I admit this sequel is actually a lot more fun than expected
18 How To Train Your Dragon 2 Dreamworks turned Disney and found ways to kill parents
19 The Nut Job Nothing like a good heist film
20 Dolphin Tale 2 Typical sequel
21 Non-Stop Typical Liam Neeson movie
22 Rio 2 Another typical sequel
23 Draft Day If it was even close to true that GM in Seattle should have been fired
24 Robocop Typical reboot
25 Left Behind Ok, I admit I expected the movie to be my least favorite well ever especially with Cage in it, but it was not as bad as feared
26 The Amazing Spider-man 2 I am not enjoying this version of Spidy movies
27 Bears Great footage and scenery
28 Transcendence Just blah
29 Son Of God Pretty Disappointing
30 Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes Just dragged on too much for my taste
31 Godzilla Still prefer the 1950ies films

To be honest, the top four movies on my list, I really enjoyed and it was tough to pick an order for them. Then for the rest of the movies, there were a some good ones and a few bad ones. I did not get to see a few movies in 2013 I really wanted to see. I am sure I will see them in 2014, but not in time to make this years list.

RANK MOVIE THOUGHTS
1 Star Trek Into Darkness The Trekie and non-Trekie in me both loved this movie
2 The Lone Ranger I am not sure why critics did not like this movie, I thought it was great. It did not destroy the old show like I feared it would.
3 Warm Bodies I know, the title is scary, but it is not one of those movies. This was fun movie to watch and the humor was great.
4 42 A great movie about a story I have read so many books about
5 Monsters University Pixar has the magic touch, and the Abominable Snowman cameo was awesomes
6 Home Run I enjoyed, but it is kind of a stretch to believe a pro team would deal with a star player with substance abuse problem
7 Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Pretty funny, clean, and enjoyable movie
8 Turbo Who knew snails had big dreams, but it made me wonder what kind of performing enhancing tests the Indy 500 has
9 Red 2 Funny, entertaining, but violent
10 Epic Sometime eccentric scientist fathers are right
11 Planes Still love the tractors
12 The Internship This was funnier than I expecteds
13 Now You See Me Nicely setup for a sequel
14 Pacific Rim The first half was too weird, but it really got better
15 The Wonderful Burt Wonderstone It had very funny parts and I can’t look at a no vacancy sign the same any more
16 Smurfs 2 A smurfy movie is all I can think of saying about it. Take that however you want.
17 The Last Stand Felt like Old School Arnold movie which I liked
18 Iron Man 3 The plot was just not as great as I have come to expect from Marvel
19 Hanzel & Gretle: Witch Hunters This is what happens when you eat candy
20 Oblivion It was interesting but felt kind of slow moving
21 Jack The Giant Slayer Kind of a fun movie almost had a small time Lord the Ring feel
22 GI Joe: Retaliation Just so-so, but I think Dwayne Johnson arms get bigger every movie he is in
23 Man of Steel Not too many great things about this movie story wise, but the acting was very good
24 Parkland Intesting take on JFK death on the people who had pulled into the event
25 White House Down It was better than Olympus Has Fallen, but that is not saying much
26 The Croods I say this every year, “Why do I keep watching Nicolas Cages movies?” I thought with it being an animation movie it would be different. I was wrong.
27 Olympus Has Fallen Horrible version of Die Hard and Air Force One. Thus proving even Morgan Freeman can still be part of really, really bad movies.

To be honest, most 2012 did not seem like the best year for movies to me or maybe I was just not into the movies when I watched them. It feels some movies I think were bad are high in my rankings because they were just better than the other bad ones.
